Today we drove just a few miles to the “Avenue of Giants” in the Humboldt Redwoods State Park.
On the Avenue of Giants parked at the visitor center.
Downed tree with rings dated.
In 1148 this tree began growing …. It was 839 years old when it fell in 1987.
The first arrow reads 1215 Magna Charta Signed, then 1492 Columbus Lands in America, then 1579 Drake Lands in California, then 1620 Pilgrims Land at Plymouth Rock , then 1776 Declaration of Independence Signed, and last 1849 Humboldt Bay Discovered by Land.
Inside the visitor center there is this motorhome built with a single log of redwood. This is Charles Kellogg’s ‘Travel-Log’ built from a 22 foot section of a 11 foot diameter tree in 1917.
This is the campground we stayed at.
Camping is second growth redwoods.
Teri took this photo in the motorhome while driving the “Avenue of Giants”. As you can see not much light gets to the ground when raining.
Just a little house in the tree.
