2009/01/21 and 22 Off to San Antonio

On the 21st we had a quiet day, did chores and got ready to move on the 22nd.

On the 22nd we went to San Antonio to the Tejas RV Campground. We arrived at about 2 PM.

Houston Space Center

Today we went to the Houston Space Center. The highlight for me was mission control.

2009/01/19 Galveston Moody Aquarium

In the afternoon we went to the aquarium

2009/01/19 Galveston, Tx. Again

We went back to Galveston the next day and in the morning went to see some of the old 1890’s homes.

18th of January; Galveston, Tx

On the 18th we went for a day trip to Galveston Island and the old port city of Galveston.

We first went to the to the Sea Wall boulevard and sidewalk.

Then we went to the north end of the Island and had lunch watching the sea traffic out of the Galveston strait.

After lunch we went down the Sea side highway down to the south end and found a lot of damage. The houses are only about 3 feet above high tide. The water damaged many of the homes on this beach.

On the way back we stopped at the pier area and saw the cruse ships at dock.

Then we went on a tour of ‘the 1877 Iron Barque ELISSA’ at pier 22 on Galveston Island. The ELISSA is one of the only traditional “tall ships” still sailing regularly. The ELISSA is a riveted iron hall with 3 soaring masts 1/4 acre of sails and 7 miles of rigging. The sail this ship once a year for about 2 weeks, this year in April.

Then off for home.

Kemah Boardwalk

On Jan. 16th we went to the Kemah Boardwalk, about a 5 minute drive from the campground. The hurricane Ike has left a mess of the boardwalk but it will be ready by summer.

On 17th of January we did the laundry and a little shopping.

Fort Worth Stockyards

On Jan. 13th we went to the old stockyards in Fort Worth. This once was once one of the larger stockyards in the USA.

One of the exhibits is of a 100 year old light bulb that is still working. The light-bulb came out of a theater that was near the stock yards.

Then of course there was a cattle drive of Texas longhorn cattle. (daily at 11:30 AM)

Of course you could try and ride one!!

Then lunch at the old hotel where “if our service is not up to your standards, lower your standards” is one of the themes of the bar. I love the belt driven two blade fans.

We took a look at the auditorium.

  We also saw the horse buggy museum that has over 60 restored units on display.

Then off for home at the RV Ranch. Tomorrow will be the King Tut Exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art.
